Accessibility Statement

Last updated: October 26, 2026

The Doe exists so that more people can be heard and understood. That only works if everyone can read our stories, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnifiers, voice control or other assistive technology. This statement explains the standard we work to, what we have done and how to tell us about a barrier.

Our standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the widely recognized standard for accessible websites, as part of our commitment to the Americans with Disabilities Act and similar laws. Accessibility is part of how we design, build and edit the Site, and we review new pages and features against this standard before they launch.

What we have done

  • A “skip to content” link and a logical heading structure on every page, so you can move through stories quickly with a keyboard or screen reader.
  • Menus, search and dialogs that work with a keyboard, show a visible focus indicator and close with the Escape key.
  • No motion on load, and smooth scrolling that respects your device’s reduced motion setting.
  • Tap targets sized for touch on phones.
  • Text alternatives for meaningful images, and color contrast checks for text and controls.
  • An accessibility toolbar, available from the button on every page, provided by ComplyMo. It lets you adjust text size, spacing, contrast, color and fonts, highlight links and headings, pause animations, and switch on profiles for seizure safety, low vision, ADHD, cognitive needs, keyboard navigation and screen readers. The toolbar is an extra option. It does not replace our work to make the Site accessible on its own.

Known limitations

  • Some older stories have images without a full text description. We are adding descriptions as we update our archive.
  • Videos and posts from other services that appear in some stories, such as YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, may not meet every requirement.
  • The donation form is provided by Zeffy, a third party. If you cannot use it, write to us and we will help you give another way.

Tell us about a barrier

If something on the Site is hard or impossible for you to use, please email admin@thedoe.com with the subject line “Accessibility.” Tell us the page, what you were trying to do and, if you are comfortable, the device and assistive technology you use. We aim to reply within 5 business days, and we can send you the text of any story in another format on request.

You can also write to The Doe, Inc., Attn: Accessibility, 5318 E. 2nd Street, PMB 42540, Long Beach, California 90803.

How we review the Site

We assess the Site ourselves, using automated tools together with manual checks with a keyboard, a screen reader and phones of different sizes. We update this statement when we make significant changes.
